MAY/JUNE 2016 NEWSLETTER
What a delight to hear the birds sing and see the flowers in bloom. For our Physical Education classes, it is the opportunity to also use our spacious Franklin fields. Remember that we are still having very varied weather conditions-one morning it’s cool and the next day it’s warm! Please have your children dress appropriately. On cool mornings, a sweatshirt or light jacket might be needed and can always be taken off in gym class. Light colored, loose fitting clothes will make children enjoy themselves on a hot day. Please, no sandals or sneakers with straps in the back of the shoe. These items may be fashionable, but pose a safety hazard in gym class. Also be careful of sneakers that have extra long laces or tie under the tongue. Too many times the sneakers become loose and fall off or the laces become untied.
The second, third and fourth grades will prepare for their Spring Physical Fitness test to be taken in May. These same grades will also take part in the “Footsie” program. This is a program to promote fitness through walking and jogging. Each student will be rewarded with a small, colorful foot for every mile they walk and/or jog. The second, third and fourth grades have recently finishing another fitness unit called “NASCAR Championship Challenge”. Our first grades will hopefully be outside more and will be participating in various cooperative games which stress teamwork.
All four grades will also learn some of the basics of baseball: hitting, fielding, and throwing and catching (wiffle balls). All grades will also get ready for Field Day, which is scheduled for June 3rd . Anyone who can volunteer his or her help (either in the morning and/or afternoon) can contact me at your convenience. It’s a fun day for all!
As you can see, we have a very busy two months coming up. Enjoy the Spring, and remember to encourage you children to stay active!
